Uganda Bugisu AA
(100% Arabica)

This single-origin Arabica coffee comes from our friends on the slopes of Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda. We've worked with them for years, and now you can too.

Farmers on individual family-owned plots of land on the slopes of Mt. Elgon (Kenya-Uganda border) hand-pick the ripe and red coffee "cherries" and within hours the fruits are pulped at the Gibuzaale washing station (6,100 ft), then soaked for about 2 days before natural drying under the sun. The remaining dried "parchment" around the green coffee bean is removed down the mountain in the town of Mbale. Ready-for-roast green beans are then transported by truck across the Uganda-Kenya border at Malaba and across Kenya to the port of Mombasa; shipped by sea to US; roasted locally in New York or Chicago
Bold, full body, with a hint of bakers chocolate
Excellent for drip brew machines and makes an amazing single origin espresso.

Citizen’s Espresso Blend
(100% Arabica)

To our beans from the Bugisu region of Eastern Uganda we've added a Fairtrade and Organic Arabica coffee from the Gayo Highlands of Sumatra, Indonesia.

The Sumatran portion of this 100% Arabica blend is from the PPKGO Cooperative.
A unique and complex flavor is produced by combining origins whose beans are processed in different manners.

While the Ugandan beans are pulped then soaked for roughly two days once picked from the trees, the Gayo beans go directly to the drying racks with only their outermost red skins removed.
This allows the natural fruits flavors of the mucilage to impart more character on the bean – in this case resulting in a dry chocolate aroma and undertones of plum and clove.
Roasted locally in New York or Chicago.
Thick, chocolaty and floral with hints of sweet spice
Ideal for espresso machines and will produce a fantastic crema and a mind-blowing cappuccino.

Why the name? This coffee is named after a great late dog of a Crop to Cup employee in Uganda. His canine buddy, Kane, is still around and luckily has less of a penchant for chasing after cars.
