JULY UPDATE  | There was a time when summers were slow, right? Not this one. July was a big month for new coffees and cupping events, and we are only picking up speed as we enter August. With so much going on let's start by sharing the biggest news first.

GUATEMALA, HONDURAS & MEXICO MICRO-LOTS are available through a first-of-its-kind partnership with Axiom Coffee Ventures. That's 32 lots of 2 to 70 bags each arriving mid-August at the Oakland Annex.

We initially learned about Axiom through their expertise in helping emerging farmer groups in Central America to access pre-crop financing. Later we learned they have Q labs in Guatemala, Honduras, Oaxaca and Nicaragua - and just last week we spent quality time with their Q-cupping team, Jorge (Guatemala) and Israel (Mexico) during a calibration kick-off in NY. 

We cupped over forty lots together, and tasted enough 90 point coffees that we became big believers in the work they do. A special thanks goes out to Stephan Erkelens who put the team together, as well as Jorge and Israel for traveling to NYC to cup, calibrate and present these coffees.

Similarly, a big thank you to the roasters who joined us last Friday to taste these smallholder lots. We learned a lot and loved having everyone in our Brooklyn Showroom to share the experience. 

If you have a rotating feature coffee, or are looking for a little something special, I would absolutely get involved with these guys and check out these microlots. They've put years of work into these communities, and some of the coffees are absolute gems.

NEW ARRIVALS  We landed new Sumatra Mandheling lots, Piso Surit and Singgalang.  Our Ugandan Kapchorwa and Buginyanya coffees arrived.  We are very excited to have our Mexico Guerrero Natural back as well. In addition, our first Ethiopian of the year just cleared - the Biftu Gudina - and it's a stunner. A sweet, focused, juicy, honeyed cup.

ORIGIN TRAVEL This month we'll be reaching out to those who have expressed interest in travelling to origin together. Next up (tentative) are Sumatra (Oct. 2015), Ethiopia (Jan. 2016), Uganda + Kenya + Tanzania + AFCA Conferences (Feb. 2016), Mexico (Mar. 2016).  Please let us know if you have interest in joining as a buyer on any of these trips.

UPCOMING ARRIVALS  Already arrived and waiting to clear at Continental Terminals are coffees from the Uganda Bulaago Project - our longest running contiguous relationship at origin.  Also clearing soon are new Ethiopians, including a Washed Yirgacheffe Kochere Gr1 and a single-farm Limmu Natural. Come the first week of September we will start off our days with cups of coffee fresh in from Colima, Mexico, then cycling in a few Kenyan and Aceh micro lots that arrive later in the month.
