It is amazing to taste how much progress this community has made despite the challenges presented by Roya and an active volcano. Join us in supporting this start-up coffee community, and in celebrating their success in the face of adversity.

In the West of Mexico Mt. Colima, or the Volcan de Fuego, shoots out above the Sierra Madre Occidental Range. The volcano is still active, and within its eruption zone live 856 coffee farmers whose small associations or ejidos work together to export coffee under a single cooperative Intragadora. This Intragadora is made up of member organizations from communities around Colima. However, if names such as Yerbabuena, Naranjal, Remudadero, and Arrayenal don't ring a bell then just wait, because they are earning a name for themselves.

Overall Impression: 8.88

We absolutely loved this coffee. Its aroma was a huge part of it's cup and got us confused at first. We believe that a slightly lower pouring temp strengthens this coffee. The aroma is somewhat complex dark fruits like black cherry with chocolate notes, perhaps even nutmeg give way to a very clean and simple chocolate cherry/strawberry flavor. Aftertaste lingered for a long time and would switch between fruit and chocolate notes while fading. A fantastic cup.

When people think of coffee from Mexico they think of Veracruz, Chiapas, Oaxaca or Puebla. They do not think of the western state of Guerrero. Those who do think of coffee from Guerrero think of the town of Atoyac, which is where almost all of the state's coffee comes to market. They do not think of the sleepy town of Zihuatanejo five hours north of Acapulco along Mexico's Costa Grande. Yet Zihua (affectionate abbreviation) is now one of my favorite places to go for coffee.
